Siliguri: The police of the NGP police station under the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have arrested three smugglers with three truck betel nuts being smuggled from Assam to Delhi by conducting an operation based on intelligence. According to NGP police sources, the market value of the seized betel nut is being reported at about Rs 1 crore. Police said that on Monday night, three trucks carrying illegal betel nuts were seized by conducting an operation based on intelligence in Siliguri town enclosed Phulbari area. It is worth mentioning that earlier on Thursday night, the police of NJP police station seized illegal liquor worth 20 lakh rupees. According to police sources, after getting intelligence of smuggling, on Monday night, three trucks of illegal betel nuts were seized after conducting an operation in Phulbari area. The drivers of the three trucks were arrested. The names of the accused are being described as Radheshyam, Jai Singh and Ajinkuddin. During interrogation, these people told that these betel nuts were being smuggled from Assam to Delhi. Betel bags were recovered from all three trucks. The three smugglers were produced in the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.
