Supreme Court: 18 lakh petitions filed in courts across the country during lockdown

Giving information, he said that during the Corona lockdown, 18,03,327 petitions were received across the country between March 24 and July 24, of which 7,90,112 have been settled. Only 2,22,431 cases came in the district courts of Maharashtra, out of which 61,986 have been settled during the corona lockdown. Expressing satisfaction, Justice Chandrachud said that despite having digital courts, the judicial system was not disrupted.

At the same time, Justice Chandrachud put a stop to those concerns of lawyers and clients that digital courts (Digital Court Room) Will replace the regular courts in the coming time. He said, “The system of digital courts has been implemented so that justice is not interrupted in times of crisis, but they can never replace hearing in open courts.” Justice Chandrachud said that these were special measures which were implemented in very exceptional circumstances and gradually we will return to hearing in open courts.

Let us tell that during the digital inauguration program of the country’s first ‘e-governance center’, Justice Chandrachud said this. During this, he appealed to everyone to go for regular hearing and said that we must also follow the medical guidelines so that the health of lawyers and clients can be taken care of.
