Mumbai: As the investigation of Mumbai Crime Branch’s fake social media followers scam continues to progress, its revelations are coming out very shocking. The biggest shocking aspect of the investigation is that Bollywood celebrities Deepika Padukone And along with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 10 celebrities are included in the list of fake followers. These fake followers are called “Bots” in the language of Instagram. Now the Mumbai Police can soon interrogate all these celebrities. This inquiry will start from the coming week, in which according to crime branch sources, statements of about 100 to 150 people will be taken.
While taking the statement, the police will ask all these celebrities to proof the number of followers who are following them. That is, the celebrity has to prove that his followers are completely genuine and not that he has bought them from a company. So far, 18 people have been questioned in this case, almost all of whom come from Bollywood or television industry. In addition to the producer, director, actress, people like makeup artist, choreographer, assistant director are also included. These are all Bollywood second grade celebrities. With this, the Mumbai Crime Branch has written a letter to the French government asking for information about the main people associated with followerscart.com who are living in France.
Let me tell you that till now the crime branch has identified about 68 such companies which are running the racket of fake social media followers in this way. The police had already arrested a person named Abhishek and according to police sources, he has questioned another person in this case. Now the police is going to investigate the case of Koena Mitra under the same social media followers scam. In this, the police has also identified a person named Sahil Khan.
According to the Crime Branch, this entire system runs on “Cost per Post”. That is, every influential social media user has a fixed rate, which has more followers, he gets more money according to the social media posts associated with any brand. That is why many Bollywood and television celebrities deal with such companies for fake social media followers. The main reason for this is the presence of ‘digital foot print’ on the Internet. Through these digital footprints, any advertiser gets to know which celebrity’s social media, which post has got how many likes, how many followers, which age groups belong to it. Accordingly, then companies or big brands spend money on these. The crime branch is confident that there has been an intrusion in the security of all social media networking companies. And now it too has come under the scrutiny of the crime branch.
