Raiganj: State Vice President of BJP Raju Banerjee was arrested by the police of Raiganj police station on Wednesday in front of BJP’s dharna manch. On the second day of the three-day sit-in, a directive was issued by the police seeking a CBI probe into the student murder. Following the police’s direction, BJP supporters were removing the dharna stage this afternoon. Meanwhile, BJP state vice president Raju Banerjee reached the dharna venue at 2 pm and started giving a speech in front of the dharna stage. The police stopped them but they did not believe finally the police arrested them. After the arrest, BJP state vice-president Raju Banerjee, sitting in a police van, said they were joining the picket against the ruthless killing of the student, but the police arrested them. He accused the police of adopting a different attitude towards the ministers and leaders of the ruling party and the leaders of the opposition parties. It is worth mentioning that in Chaturgachh Chopra, a student of class X was murdered after allegedly raping her. A three-day dharna program was started by the BJP yesterday from Uttar Dinajpur District BJP office at Raiganj 1 MG Road to demand a CBI probe into the murder of the girl child. Everything remained calm on the first day yesterday. Today, the police issued a directive to the BJP to end the picket. Gauthalab is a girl who was recently murdered after allegedly raping a tenth pass in Chaturagach of Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district. On the second day, the body of the main accused in the murder of the student was also recovered. Several buses were burnt by violent demonstrations by the locals about the incident. Furious people threw stones at the police. Police had to use tear gas shells and lathicharge to control the situation.
